Marbling is the ancient art of floating paints on thickened ("sized") water, then transferring the floating paint design onto paper or fabric. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique design. Use this traditional technique to make your own patterned fabric, one-of-a-kind wrapping paper, greeting cards, fine art and more. Each design is as unique as a fingerprint! The Jacquard Marbling Kit is easy to use and gives professional-quality results.

The kit includes 6 marbling colours 14.79ml each: yellow, red, violet, blue, white and black, synthetic gall, alum (Mordant, carrageenan and comprehensive easy to follow instructions. You'll also need one or two shallow trays, paper towels, combs, hair picks, skewers for combing patterns into the colours, and paper for fabric for marbling.

Rice paper works beautifully with brilliant rich colours and a nice texture, although other papers such as the Reeves Visual Layflat visual pad work well also. Practice papers such as zeta paper and the Windsor & Newton marker papers also work. Papers may curl on drying; an iron applied with a cloth over the paper will flatten the papers.
